DOMESTIC ADOPTION

DOMESTIC ADOPTION

ABI’s Domestic Program’s goal is to create in parents a firm foundation of self-awareness, empathy and connection for healthy families and healthy adoption triads. We work very closely with the expectant mothers who entrust us with their adoption plans and their children’s well-being before, during and after placement. We deeply value our role and responsibility and have an unwavering commitment to ethical adoption practice.

ABI can help prospective adoptive families who have already identified a child to adopt with home study services and assistance through the legal adoption process.

For Expectant Parents

ABI works with Kentucky, Indiana, and Tennessee, expectant mothers and families as they contemplate a domestic adoption for their babies. Private, nondirective counseling is offered to expectant families, and our Pregnancy Counselor will help to access community resources and medical care for the birth families, whenever necessary. Biological parents have the opportunity to choose the adoptive family for their baby, and placement is usually made with the adoptive family soon after the baby’s birth.

ABI's Domestic Adoption Program

ABI offers domestic adoption services for Kentucky, Indiana, and Tennessee families who have utilized our adoption preparation services.

ABI’s domestic adoptive parents are at least 21 years old and no more than 45 years old. Both married couples and single applicants are able to adopt in this program, and there is no limit for number of children residing in the home.

ABI’s Domestic Adoption Program is available to a limited number of select prospective adoptive parents who reside in our states of licensure. ABI is a child-centered agency, education and relationship driven with our expectant/birth and adoptive parents to first serve the children we place. Our goal is to create in parents a firm foundation of self-awareness, empathy and connection for healthy families and healthy adoption triads. We work very closely with the expectant mothers who entrust us with their adoption plans and their children’s well-being before, during and after placement. We deeply value our role and responsibility and have an unwavering commitment to ethical adoption practice.

Our expectations are high, and we only accept prospective adoptive parents into our program who align with our values and expectations:

  1. We believe that quick, cheap, and easy home studies and adoption education do not provide the ethical preparation for the lifelong issues of adoption.
  2. We recognize that adoptive parenting and biological parenting are different. Not better or worse – just different – and we will acknowledge those differences.
  3. We respect and value the birth family’s role in their child’s life (regardless of the level of openness in the relationship).
  4. We know that adopting a child is a great privilege.
  5. We believe that the birth mother and adoptee voices must be heard, valued, and amplified.
  6. We believe that flexibility, humility, self-awareness, resiliency, and monitored expectations are vital qualities in the adoption process and adoptive parenting.

ABI can help families in Kentucky, Indiana, and Tennessee complete a home study and comply with all rules and regulations for your domestic adoption, whether the child is born in your state or in another state. We have the knowledge to make absolutely sure your adoption is legal and permanent!

The first step of the process will be to contact the office in your state of residence for an adoption home study:
