EDUCATION

The ABI & NTDC Domestic training course has been one of the most beneficial experiences for
us as both current and prospective adoptive parents. The curriculum is comprehensive,
engaging, and challenging as it relates to critical components of the adoption and fostering
experience. The instructors do an excellent job of facilitating the course content in a way that is
engaging by encouraging dialogue, sharing their own lived experience, and creating a safe
learning environment where cohort members feel comfortable to share thoughts, feelings,
emotions, and ask questions. After completing this course we felt more equipped as adoptive
parents to support our family and advocate for the adoption constellation.

ABI is excited that we offer the National Training and Development Curriculum (NTDC) domestic adoption curriculum, which was created nationally under a grant from the US Children’s Bureau! We feel that this curriculum will enhance our prospective adoptive parents’ ability to confidently, lovingly and competently parent their adopted children. NTDC is based on research, input from experts, feedback from families who have experience adopting children, and the lived experience of adoptive/foster care youth. It will provide tools needed to successfully parent a child who has experienced trauma, separation, or loss. It is a state-of-the-art online program and also affords parents access to information and resources needed to continue building skills once they have a child in their home.

Classroom based material is delivered by the agency via video conference with plenty of breaks for discussion among participants and with the presenters. We believe this has enhanced the ABI community of adoptive families and our staff to better get to know and support one another throughout the adoption journey.

The courses are taught by Stephanie Williams, MA, LSW, and Amanda Burton, BSW. Each have many years experience in the adoption field, both professionally and personally. Stephanie and Amanda are both mothers through adoption and Amanda was adopted internationally.

All Blessings offers the trainings multiple times throughout the year for all interested families. Training is open to any adoptive family who wants to expand their adoptive parenting toolbox, develop a deeper understanding of their child’s experience as an adopted person and provide a nurturing home environment. You can sign up for the next cohort at ABI &NTDC Domestic Training Course

ABI provides an additional domestic course for prospective adoptive parents who will only be completing a home study with the agency. This class is self-directed and in our online portal. It is filled with videos, articles, and interactive assessments for families to use as they expand their understanding of becoming adoptive parents and the perspectives of birth parents and adopted individuals.

All classes are open to the public for purchase! We believe you can never have too much adoption education! A menu can be found in our Adoption Training Portal.

This training was extremely informative and eye-opening!
Many first-time adoptive parents (including myself)
are wrapped up in the excitement of adding to our families,
but many of the topics reviewed and discussed during this training
provided amazing insight into the responsibilities that come
with being a prent.
